I + am + Shipon + 1988
I am most known on the web by the username IamShipon1988. Most people ask, what is the meaning behind the username. The answer is quite simple once you break it down: I am Shipon (my nickname) 1988 (birth year). I am a Mechanical Engineering student from Rochester Institute of Technology with a concentration in Anthropology (I will be walking this May). Previously, I worked with several engineering firms as a Design Engineer and with a software firm as their Creative Director. Back in 2006 or so, I met up with a friend of mine, Ehsan, and together we started Fleech Media, a resource company.
Why website/design work?
This somewhat relates to my answer to the last question. A designer and a webmaster will be the ones putting on the exterior look of the product I design. And lets be honest, we love an ‘eye-toy.’ What looks good is what attracts us first. I want to be able to have the effect on my work; whether how the product looks or how its advertised. Why have someone else do your work while you know exactly what you want right? That’s just one reason; the other being I quite enjoy it. Simple as that.
What do I do?
This is quite a common question I receive; what do you do. To be honest, I aim to try everything. I have degree in mechanical engineering (close to it at least), I have experience working as a leader with a software company, I am a self-taught graphic designer and a business man. I guess saying I have a degree in mechanical engineering doesn’t really explain my skill sets relating to engineering (ME). To elucidate, I have taken all the typical courses required for an ME degree; but I needed the skill-sets needed to get my ideas and concept across to the other departments of engineering. I know that in order for a product to be designed and distributed, it typically follows the process described here. To meet this, I took up courses in manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, civil engineering and packaging science. My theory is TO GET YOUR IDEAS ACROSS YOU NEED TO KNOW THE LANGUAGE OF THE OTHERS WORKING WITH YOU.
